Whetlands School Yard - Ceramic installation

(December 15, 2007)

Whetlands School yard ceramic installation

A 60M2 ceramic tile installation set into the existing school playground.

The brief:

Ceramic tiles made to own design reflecting the association between the area Redcar and the sea. Tiles to be fixed to selected area of the school yard. Students were involved in the manufacture and decoration of the individual tiles when possible.

My approach to the project & inspiration:

To spend time on the seafront and in the town of Redcar. To carry out research with the local history books. The search was rewarded by the unearthing of a host of images appropriate to such a large scale project.
